Optimization of the design of a CubeSat structure using AM

Context:

The proposed project focuses on the optimization of the design of a CubeSat structure, utilizing PEEK family polymer and coated with aluminium thin-films. The assembly will be reduced to 2 parts, thus minimizing assembly complexity.

 

The challenge:

  • The proposed project focuses on the optimization (mass reductions >30%) of the design of a CubeSat structure, utilizing PEEK polymer for SLS process and coated with aluminium thin-films.
  • Develop non metallic flying primary structure, mass saving, minimizing assembly complexity.
  • Cost saving.
  • Validate functional coatings: plating efficiency as well as verification of the coating thickness locally.
