Realization of a hardware and software ecosystem to convert CT scans into real parts made using multimaterial/multicolour AM


The project focuses on the realization of a hardware and software ecosystem that can support dentists, surgeons and dental labs in the creation of a patient-specific dental 3D model to plan surgical treatments, to improve surgeon-patient communication and for the training of young surgeons.

The challenge:

  • All-in-one approach using high resolution multimaterial/multiextruders FDM printers to print different materials in different colours to highlight specific regions of clinical/surgical interest.
  • Modular approach using stereolitographic systems (SLA/SL) to create transparent frames to replicate hard tissues (bones, condyles, jaw) and multicolour FDM printers to create specific tissues (teeth, nerves, gums).
