Online tool for designing lattice structures


This project aims to manufacture sport helmets using AM (i.e. climbing, snowboarding, cycling) with the purpose to certify and commercialise the product for full-scale production. The helmets have been designed with lattice structures that help to improve the helmet’s safety by enhancing its shock-absorption performance. AM technology permits personalizing helmets for each individual consumer, this project will explore requirements, technologies and processes required for helmet personalization.

The challenge:

  • Discover, understand and report how sport helmets with AM perform according to EU safety regulations for helmets.
  • Identify the manufacturing infrastructure needed for industrial production of such AM produced personalized sport helmets.
  • Identify market requirements for other uses, applications, and products of AM produced shock absorbing structures: helmets, body armour.
